When Heaven and Earth Changed Places
Child of War, Woman of Peace
(Le Ly Hayslip)

These two books are written by a woman who
survived the war and made it to the United States.
She was a former Viet Cong fighter and then became
the front runner for normalizing relations between the
United States and Vietnam. Her story is like many in
Vietnam during the war. Families had members that
fought on both sides of the former conflict, caught in
between. Thuy and Le Ly presented together at the
University of Marquette, MI. See reflection here

First They Killed My Father
Lucky Child
(Loung Ung)

These two books are written by a survivor of the
Khmer Rouge. The one book is about her and her
family's experience during the Khmer Rouge regime
and the other is about her and the few family members
who actually made it out alive and to America. A movie is
being produced by Angelina Jolie based on
Loung Ung's story.

A novel written by a Vietnam Veteran that can be found

Author Andrew Lam
Andrew is an Author, lecturer, commentator, and journalist. He is also the son of a former South Vietnamese General.

Perfume Dreams is his reflections about the Vietnamese Diaspora, East Eats West is
Part memoir, part meditation, and part cultural anthropology, it is about thriving in the West with one foot still in the East, and Birds of Paradise lost is a collection of  thirteen stories that chronicle the anguish and joy and bravery of America’s newest Americans, the troubled lives of those who fled Vietnam and remade themselves in the San Francisco Bay Area. Andrew has spoken at one of our events. Last Night I dreamed of Peace: The Diary of Dang Thuy Tram
(Dang Thuy Tram)

A woman who served as a doctor for the NVA
during the war. She also died during the war and
her diary was found and made into this book.

Vietnam Today
(David Lamb)

Former reporter during the war returns after 20 some
years to report of the Vietnam today. He talks to various
individuals from different "sides"  and perspectives of the
former conflict and then wrote this book about it.

A book and movie about a Vietnam Veteran who returns to Vietnam to find his Amerasian child based off his memoir.
