Child of War, Woman of Peace (Le Ly Hayslip) These two books are written by a woman who survived the war and made it to the United States. She was a former Viet Cong fighter and then became the front runner for normalizing relations between the United States and Vietnam. Her story is like many in Vietnam during the war. First They Killed My Father Lucky Child (Loung Ung) These two books are written by a survivor of the Khmer Rouge. The one book is about her and her family's experience during the Khmer Rouge regime and the other is about her and the few family members who actually made it out alive and to America. A movie is being produced by Angelina Jolie based on Loung Ung's story. |

Last Night I dreamed of Peace: The Diary of Dang Thuy Tram
(Dang Thuy Tram) A woman who served as a doctor for the NVA during the war. She also died during the war and her diary was found and made into this book. |
Vietnam Today
(David Lamb) Former reporter during the war returns after 20 some years to report of the Vietnam today. He talks to various individuals from different "sides" and perspectives of the former conflict and then wrote this book about it. |
